The Many Uses of Tile in Scottsdale

Many people in Scottsdale might think that tile is only good for kitchen floors, shower walls, and bathroom counters, but they couldn’t be more wrong.  There are many uses for tile in Scottsdale homes.  The most common use of tile is for interior floors, and while it is true that many Scottsdale homes have tile in the kitchen, its use is not limited to just that space.  Tiled entryways, halls, and living rooms can both beautiful and functional.  Many Scottsdale homeowners choose to use natural stone tile in these spaces because of the association many people make between ceramic and bathrooms.  But marble, granite, slate, and other stones can serve the same function as ceramic without looking sterile and uninviting.  Tile can also be used for backsplashes, windowsills, and table tops, and is available in numerous colors.  Scottsdale homeowners may find it difficult to choose between elaborate mosaics and simple geometric patterns when considering how to use tile in their homes.

Tile can also be used for exterior spaces of Scottsdale homes.  You may be familiar with the look of terra cotta roof tiles, which has become popular for both Spanish-style and other types of homes.  You have probably also seen tile used around pool areas in Scottsdale.  Unglazed terra cotta tiles can be a beautiful non-slick surface around the pool’s edge, and ceramic and glass tiles might provide a very pretty decorative touch both in and out of the water.  Some types of tile—such as travertine or slate—make excellent patio floors or stepping stones in garden walkways for a couple of reasons.  First, they tend to hold up well under even extreme weather conditions.  Second, when they are not glazed like most ceramic tiles are, they look and feel more natural and organic in both desert landscaping and grass lawns.
